Mountain overview

Mount Roraima is one of the most famous tepuis of the Guiana Highlands, a table-top mountain with sheer cliffs rising above tropical savanna and forest. Its summit plateau lies near the tripoint of Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil and supports unusual ecosystems shaped by isolation, poor soils and extreme rainfall. Waterfalls pour directly from the plateau edges after storms, reinforcing the mountain's dramatic, almost architectural appearance.

The standard trekking route from Venezuela reaches the summit by a weakness known as the Ramp rather than by vertical cliff climbing. The approach takes several days, and the plateau itself can be cold, wet and disorienting despite its tropical latitude. Roraima is therefore best understood as a remote multi-day trekking landscape, not as a conventional alpine summit where the objective ends at one obvious highest point.
